Les escarres sont douloureuses.

Les escarres sont douloureuses et gênantes pour les patients, ce qui affecte leur indépendance et leur qualité de vie 9. Les escarres sont l'une des conditions hospitalières les plus courantes 11, touchant jusqu'à 23% des patients hospitalisés 12.

Actuellement, nous sommes confrontés à environ 58 millions d'escarres 13 dont les complications entraînent 60 000 décès par an rien qu'aux États-Unis 14.

Les personnes souffrant d'escarres ont 4,5 fois plus de risques de mourir que celles qui présentent les mêmes facteurs de risque mais qui n'ont pas d'escarres 15.
